dido - cool article. A bit light on the electronics end of it though. It'd be nice to know how to configure the lock up for rigs what don't have no computer on board.

That article is nice and all but kind of misleading.. They seem to be pushing people to buy more parts from vendors who support the mag then you really need.. I know for a fact that a powerglide cross member will work with a 700R4.. Even uses a stock TH350 tranny mount.... Who knows how much more they are adding that you dont need...

Magazines HAVE to support their advertisers. If they didn't, they would be out of business in short order.
The "other" alternatives are what places like this are all about and also why ChevyTalk is Member Supported.
Take the magazines for what they are worth. A source of ideas, as well as letting you know what is available in the aftermarket.
As for the electronics of that swap, it's a kit that many aftermarket suppliers, like TCI or Bowtie Overdrives can provide. It's a fairly simple conversion.

Well, I thought the pictures were good... and it was one route to take... but yeah, of course the mags send shout outs to their advertisers and the shops that help them out with installtions... that's just good business and capitalism.
But, I figured it was swap of a 700r4 into our type of truck...
How much electronic mumbo jumbo is on the 700r4 ?
I myself have other things to fix before I consider that option, but just curious.

Not much to deal with after using the above mentioned kits. It is meant to control converter lockup at the desired speed. It's nothing more than a 12v connection and a switch to tell the trans when to come out of lockup. The switch can be a manual toggle, or wired into the brake light circuit.
