I am putting an early 70's carbureted 350 into mid-eighties (1985)Monte with a 4.3. The motor runs well with a temporary fuel set-up and mechanical fuel pump. How can I run my 1986 Q-jet with the original Monte computer without changing the entire wiring harness? Will the primative computer from the TBI engine run a 1986 Q-jet carbureted 350 with minor adaptations and a fuel pressure regulator? I am working through this project with some students at a high school in Illinois. We are on a low budget, and we would really like to make this car emission legal! Please help!!

I don't believe a computer from a FI car will work on a carb. But you may be able to use a computer from a V-8 car. It may plug right in.

You should have no problem if you used a carb and no computer.

I am realizing that the cleanest and most inexpensive solution will be to pull out the electronic fuel pump, leave in the sending unit, and pull the computer wiring harness. I have checked the V8 computers from that era, and they will require a change in the main harness. Looks like we will run this car the old fashioned way!

I'm by no means an ace at this but couldn't you get a V8 TBI intake, and use the 4.3 throttle body with bigger injectors? It may also require a new chip in the computer.
