Hey guys,
I was curious, has anyone ever seen a fleetside with side pipes? IF so and even if not what do you guys think of the idea? If you like the idea let me know and if you hate the idea lemme know as well. I have had the idea of doing a stock floor body drop on my truck, but my dad keeps beating it down. Go figure! To think when I bought my truck and wanted to lower is 2 inches he was going to have a heart attack lol. If I did the SFBD my truck I would like an extra hand doing it, but my dad doesn't seem to want to help me with a body drop. Who knows I may change his mind but until then I am not going any lower.
I was thinking about my exhaust and how I was going to run it because I don't have much room under there. I though about dropping the pipes off right after the carrier barriing member. I figured I would just dump if off under the frame and it would not be seen from outside the truck. Then my dad brough up the idea of side pipes, they would go from the opening of the front fender and drop off shortly before the opening of the rear fender well. That way I would solve my exhuast problem and it would also give me the look of being about 3 inches closer to the the ground.
Any thoughts? Anyone want to help me body drop my truck? jk.
Any ways let me know what you think.
Thanks Keith

Hey Kieth, Awhile back when I stripped a 1961 lwb fleetside Apache, it was done in a "70's" custom. It had the late 60 Vette roadster side pipes that ran from the front of the door, and stopped just short of the rear wheel. To me it looked pretty good. David

Thanks for the comments guys,
If I was to do it I don't think I would use any pipe covers, I never really liked the look of them.

it would look good, there is an elcomino around here that has the vette style side pipes with the covers... not sure how well anything would look without them....

The first thing my Dad said when I got my 66 was "you should run the exhaust down the side" (he had a 63) I said ah yeah...but then I started thinking about it, and the more I do the more I think he had a good idea. I really want to see a pic first, but have not seen any yet. Check these out? what do you guys think? sidepipes

Keith, I think if you are gonna DO sidepipes, you should make em yourself out of something like 3 or 3 1/2" tubing. BIG AND BAD. Your truck is going to be a beauty and I just think it would be a shame to hang some J C Whitney pipes on the sides...my dos centavos (-;

No problem with the look, but if your truck is a driver, what are you gonna do for mufflers? I can just see you getting on very friendly terms with every cop in town.

Lakes pipes like these would look good. It depends on the style of the truck in my opinion.

I think it would look pretty good- I like side pipes in general. However, it seems like you want to go pretty low with this project, isn't that going to interfere?
I PM'd you a picture.

Thanks Doug! Here is the pic Doug did for me, I like it, I like it alot!
Hey Ray, I know the pipes my dad has actually have mufflers in the pipes .
ON everyones concern about ride height and bags. I should have about 5 inches of ground clearance under the pipe when driving. I can always air the bags up a little extra if I have to get over something.

I do like the port hole idea, I dont know if I would go with 3 holes, but I think two would be cool. Only thing is that if I was going to run it under the body I would just bump it off before the fender opening. The thought behind the sidepipes is to appear lower with out body dropping the truck.
