Assume you're referring to a tri-5 radio and where to attach under dash. If it has/had a radio there should be some holes in the dash where the ground went. try moving the strap around to see if you get a line up one a hole. If you can't find one just poke a hole for a sheetmetal screw at the best place for the strap to reach and attach it there. Any part of the body is ok for ground, long as it's a good chassis ground. Hope this heelps.

Nelson, are you referring to the flat braided ground straps that are used in the engine compartment? If so, for what year car do you need this info?

Nelson, here's a diagram from the radio installation instructions. I always thought there was more than one strap, but only one is shown.

Nelson,

here is a diagram of where the three straps go. Remember there is also a larger ground strap from the starter to the firewall.

I agree with my buddy Steve. The NOS radio I have for my NOS 55 Ragtop shows ONLY the strap Steve shows in his post. It is only used on V-8 cars with a 2 bbl and single exhaust.
The post from Keith shows the correct ground
straps used beginning with 1957. This is another one of the cases that the repro manufacture is selling something for more applications then the factory used so they can max the profit. Beware!
I would add that on a non original car the additional straps would help, keeping in mind the factory DIDN'T use them if you are building a factory original.
I have stripped 100's of these cars and never found ONE with the tranny or frame strap on the 57 or any ground straps on the 55-56's for the radio. I have a bag full of NOS ones I got in a dealership several years ago and they were in an old radio box....so do you think they got installed at the dealer?
Show up with a restored car at a show and most of the judges expect to see all those straps on the car....even though they were never used.....because a repro manufacture sells them TODAY!

Interesting point Michael.

I dug all through the assembly manual and couldn't find any of them. These instructions came with my three starps when I bought them a few months ago. Maybe that explains why I couldn't find them in any original 55 literature.
