I thought that only one 1942 Blackout model has survived, and yet there is the pic of a '42 with black grille and stick-on badge in a private museum in CLASSIC & SPORTSCAR magazine. I believed that the car with others was to be sold at auction.

These '42 "black out" models are rare, but I know there is more than one around! Someone here in the US (I think from the mid-west) was posting on CT looking for some plastic interior handles for their restoration of one only a few months' back.

The blackout jobs are rare but I would guess that there may be a couple of hundred around.I know of several restored ones in the Vintage Chevrolet club plus some unrestored as well as parts cars.I believe there are two for sale in Hemmings this month. The black out cars had chrome bumpers only. All other "bright" patrs were painted a contrasing color or cream. All 1942s had plastic inside door and window crank handles-blackout or not-all all broke. They were cracking on my fathers 1942 when they were 4 years old. There replacement handles sold for them -after 1946 were the metal-chrome ones used on 1946 and up.

There was an original unrestored 42 black-out coupe on ebay about a month or two back. I don't really remember exactly what the high bid was but it was around $3000 and the reserve wasn't met. Anyone see this?

Over in the VCCA chat room there was a party looking for door handles for a blackout model that he was restoring.

These are going to be almost impossible to find! These early plastic handles were only used on those few '42 models produced late in the model run - and I understand that they were none too durable. Most were replaced with the die-cast handles used on the '46 and later models many years back.

Almost impossible is very right Royer,

Holden bodied chev's from 46 to 48 here have plastic coated door and window crank handles. I have an ok set and have been looking for some extras for some time now. The last time I saw a set they were mint, reconditioned items and sold for premium price too. 4 of each for AU$500.

I am pretty certain I could cast a pair, if I had a broken original.

I have an NOS pair of blackout taillight bezels I bought back in the '70's. They are painted a light green color. Was going to plate them way back when but found another NOS chrome pair.

These handles have a steel core. Is it still possible for you to cast them?

I am pretty sure I can. I have casted many other things successfully. Most things take a bit of trial and error, but I have pretty background for it.
