A doctor friend of mine, who's dad bought him a 350hp SS in hi-school, recently bought this supposedly documented genuine 61 SS.
He sold the car to attend med school, and has wanted one ever since. Finally got one!
The original painted valve covers are in the trunk.

If I recall correctly my memory is excellent. My ability to access it is not.

SOOOOOOOOOOO, does that mean you would kick it out of the garage into the street and put a sign on the windshield that says: FREE TO A GOOD HOME?

If you post a photo of that liddle biddy cowl tag, we'll see if it's an SS.

Cheers, Carl.

That is EXACTLY correct. It is an add-on aftermarket PS setup. The original steering gear box has been replaced with with a later PS system gear box. Personally, I think it is a nice upgrade.

I am NOT a 58-61 Tripower expert. But this does not look like the linkage that I have seen on factory setups for the front-rear carb linkage.
Who can give information on this linkage vs factory correct linkage?

Jens had lots of posts on this with the original setup, it had that vacuum pod on the front driver side on the original setups. The new way to do them is the progressive linkage, I don’t think it has that vacuum pod. None of his posts that I found had pictures still there.

Correct, my friends 61 has some kind of progressive linkage between the center and front/rear carbs, which APPEARS to be a better setup. But NOT factory.
There is a non-functional vacuum pod on the front carb (only serves for looks).
Once the air cleaner is installed the linkage cannot be seen and the vac pod is not visible to be non-functional.
So, in my opinion, it seems that the functionality is better than the factory vacuum linkage. I like it.
I was just curious what the factory setup should look like.

In 1992 when I was first looking for a car, I found a 61, I think it was an Impala bubble top, with a 348 and a 4 speed. I could have bought it for $3,000. But it was in pieces and I had absolutely no way to haul it to my house. Unfortunately I only had a one car garage at the time. I sure wish I could go back now and I would drag it home.

George
