Curious what everyone here is using for body mounts . It's way over due replacing my original body mounts on my 63 impala. I've read so many different posts on numerous sites regarding poly vs rubber . What brand did you go with ? I'm leary of the Auto USA brand on classic industries, mainly because I haven't heard of them. Also there's a JEGS brand . Haven't seen a Moog brand body mounts or I'd consider them .

use the rubber ones or else you will lose some of your quiet ride. Hard mounts mean hard ride and rattles.Ask anyone with a convertiblethat is stock with hard mounts for stiffness.

Use only rubber mounts..
I used them on 8 frame off restorations with zero issues including using a NOS set of rubber and metal GM body mounts on my 62 Impala SS 409 convertible.

Classic industries sells other companies parts.

Show Cars Inc in Minnesota sells USA made mounts that’s what I would buy from them.
Also know that “all” repro body mounts do not come with the large full width metal washer on the top of the mounts ( like the factory GM mounts). I purchase stainless washers from Show Cars to install on the new mounts

Thank you for that info . I see they have USA made ones and imported. Would definitely be going with USA . I'm guessing the kit doesn't come with shims or large washers ? I may have to contact them . Probably need to order cage nuts also . I'm guessing 2.

The rubber body mounts don’t come with the full width washers.
There are also square shims that were used to fit the mounts to the car ( to eliminate space between the mounts and the body.
They list two sizes of the square shims - I used the ones that are wide enough to fit over the outside edges of the round mounts.

Show Cars also sells replacement cage nuts to weld to the body along with USA and imported body mounts.

There are 6 cage nuts in the body on Hardtops and 8 on convertibles. The front mounts are on the firewall.
The key will be how many body bolts of the 8 can be removed without cutting them off the car because the bolts can't be removed because the cage nuts are frozen /rusted

I have a few original square shims I can measure

cage nuts

I think these are the shims
https://show-cars.com/product/191

USA made body mounts (8 for hardtops)

https://show-cars.com/product/4583

Large washers for top of each body mount (like factory did) -zinc plated from the picture?) I bought some stainless ones I thought from Show Cars--no rust ever..)

You need a body bolt set with washers this a 12 bolt set for convertibles - I could not find the 8 bolt set for Hardtops

Wow so this is adding up quickly. I didn't realize there were that many cage nuts. I was thinking just one under each fender . Also , the bolt and washer kit, that doesn't come with the large washers which are needed?

Not to mention the labor involved. I was going to have a local shop here in Jacksonville ( Jax speed shop) replace the mounts. I'm sure most are rusted out.. Also need the driver rear box brace replaced and welded in..

No the bolt kit only comes with washers for the head of the bolts ( for the small rubber washers that mount below the frame mount supports).
The large washers for the top are possibly optional but your existing mounts have these large washers.

A impact tool needs to be used to remove the 6 bolts with cage nuts - maybe some of the bolts will come out - the impact tool will probably break the cage nut and just spin or break the bolt - probably have to cut heads of bolts off.
To access the cage nuts you / they will have to cut holes in the braces - remove damaged rusty cage nuts - then weld in new cage nuts - then reweld the holes cut in the braces & do body work to brace welding( assuming you don’t want welding visible on the bottom of the car.

Trying to access cage nuts from the floor pan inside the car probably does not work since the cage nuts are welded to the bottom of the floor inside braces.

The two rear body mounts( cage nuts) behind the rear wheels are only accessible from inside the trunk unless the entire mount is replaced ( you said you are replacing one of these mounts )

I am sure 63 and 64 are much the same on those bolts. On my fairly rust free California 64 Impala, I had one bolt that rusted to the cage bolt and broke the bolt. I tried and "easy out" with no success.

So using my dremel I cut a window to get access and broke the cage bolt free

Extracted nut.

And all the dirt captured inside. So everytime you drive in the rain, the dirt gets muddy and makes a great breeding ground for rust.

Strangely, I was able to put the nut in a vise and use vise grips on the other end of the bolt and it came out without much drama. So I was able to reuse the nut.

I also did my amature job welding the cutout bit back in place and used a grinder to smooth it and covered it with undercoating to hide my poor weld :D

From the sounds of things, I was lucky to only have one broken bolt, due to the low rust level on my car.

I have some NOS left in my collection. Not sure how many in total. I'll have to check.
