I've got a lot of slack in my diff, been that way for years, but after this snowy weather and getting stuck in my own driveway, my open diff days are over, I have a Chilton's but it doesn't give any specs, I don't want to go crawl under a mud and snow stuck truck, so I'm hoping one of you kind gentlemen will happen to know, spline count, ring gear size and anything else I need to order the right setup. It's a 6 lug, 5 speed manual, 4 wheel drive, I've heard they all pretty much have the same size standard rear diff.

Should be a tag on the diff stating the gear ratio, your axle shaft spline count, once you find out what the rear is that should be easy to look up.

If your open diff days are over might I suggest an Eaton Tru-Trac. They are seamless in operation and very effective (respond well to brake modulation if the situation arises...like a tire off the ground as they still require some resistance). They don't require any special additives or maintainance either.
Just a thought

Thank you everyone who replied, the Chilton's did say that all the 4x4 rear ends are the same, so the 8.5 in. 30 spl, should be correct, I'll make sure and see about the tag, but I'm 99 percent sure about the 8.5, after 2 days of trying to dig it out, only to get stuck again, my neighbor must of decided to have pity on me, and with 3 long chains to reach the road, his one ton with the utility bed and big censored welder in the back, barely giving it any gas, pulled me through and out of the mud bog, I am going with the tru trac, I'm just doing the pumpkin innards, not the whole rear end, the truck deserves it, she's still got a lot of miles left in her, and I'm past being tired of the slack and open diff, everything on her still works, and she ain't rusted at all, no computer, and carbureted with a Chevy 400, she's a keeper, thanks again guys for the input, muchly appreciated 👍

4x2 and 4x4 axles are not the same....they differ only in width.
