Just curious did Chevy make a factory1 ton dually with a pickup bed. There is a 55 for sale on the Wichita Kansas Facebook marketplace. The truck has been well used but sure looks like that might have been a factory bed.

I could be wrong as I'm no expert on the older trucks but I don't believe GM offered a factory dually *pickup* until the squarebody era (1973-1987) - I've seen some 1967-1972 dually pickups that looked pretty convincing but I think they were custom jobs, as I suspect all of the pre-squarebody dually pickups are.

Hopefully someone with more expertise can chime in on the subject.

My little brother had a mid 50's GMC dually pickup that absolutely fit the description of "well-used" but is absolutely questionable on the subject of whether it's a factory pickup. The outer duals stick out past the fenders, so that's the first giveaway, to me. I can't imagine GM would have ever sent that out the door. It's also an "extended cab" (no quarter windows though) which is 100% not factory. It looks to me all-around like a very old custom job.

That's an interesting GMC photo above. By the hood emblem I think 1959.
I don't remember a factory dually before 1973.

Studying the photo posted on Facebook some more. The bed is wider than a normal bed. Actually looks as though the top bed rails stick out on each side of the cab. The fenders were cut to only about 1/3 to 1/2 the size of standard fenders in width to cover the duals. Tubs mounted inside the bed to cover inside of the duals. Has a heavy duty step down type bumper. The truck is red so possible it was custom made buy some company for a fire department.

Yeah I guess I was being a little dense when I called it mid-50's, I should've naturally realized by the quad lamps it was 58-59.

Neat old truck and it ran/drove but driving it was a bit dicey as everything was worn out and each bump you hit it would rain rust down on you from the holes in the upper windshield area.

I had a '58 that started life as an Apache 10, longbed stepside. The guy I bought it from turned it into a dually by swapping it onto a '94 C3500 chassis. The way he solved the bed issue was twofold - he replaced the bed header panel and tailgate with parts from a 60-66 fleetside which along with the stepside fenders made it the perfect width for the dually rear end, but he had to move the fenders back a few inches to accommodate the wheelbase difference. Fun truck but that 6.5 turbodiesel left me walking enough times I got rid of it; didn't have the time to become a 6.5 expert just to keep a toy running reliably.

I added the V8 hood emblem (appropriate since it had the 6.5) and the Viking 60 emblems to fit the theme of the truck a bit better.

1 ton just had single rear wheels. Had a 9’ box.
Dual wheels came with C&C so a deck or box mounted above them
