hi all having charging problems on my 59 235 , started off with the charging light on dash going off on tickover but coming on as the revs rose , put a meter across battery which is fairly new and fully charged and reading was a constant 12.4v even when i upped the revs , i cleaned up all connections on generator which has new brushes, and cleaned up all regulator connections (regulator only done about 500mls from new ), it worked, 14.5/ 15 volts on meter when reved, next week back to no charge, i took cover off regulator and cleaned all 3 sets of points in there , left cover off and fired it up , i noticed the bottom set of points which deal with the charging sparking and not constantly closed so put my screwdriver on them so they made contact 15v to the battery again when reved , i adjusted these points so they were permenently in contact , charge light on dash came on with ignition then went off went off when started and voltage to the battery rose nicely through the revs to 14.5/15volts , the top set of points connected to the live side of battery i noticed was always open , then after a while they closed and i noticed battery voltage on tick over was constantly rising and when revs highered voltage reading was climbing to 16v plus, if i parted the top battery connection points with screw driver voltage drops back down to about 12.9volts every thing seems to be fluctuating voltage wise , any ideas , thanks

Regulator grounded properly? Tried grounding the field wire on the generator to confirm max output, this takes the regulator out of the circuit.
