In the last year I've bought a new starter, negative and positive cables, new alternator and alternator pigtail, all on a four year old Wallyworld battery (10/20). Now I think the batteries going south.

Slow grind this morning (again), then click click click. Jumped then drove it for 30 minutes. Got home and after letting it cool off it showed a whopping 11.5 volts. Restarted it and pulled the positive cable and it kept running.

Bad battery right?

As a side note note, not recommended to check an alternator like that. Battery should be charged to 12.6v,, then properly load tested
to determine it's condition.

Should have 12+ volts not running. Should have 13.5 to 14.5 running. My experience is that after 3 years a battery may go bad. I have had good luck with wallyworld batteries. I checked mine recently and date on battery is 9 2019. I was surprised it has lasted this long. Still operating good. I expect it may crap out this winter, but until it does, I will continue to run it as is. You can go to your local auto parts store to have it tested for free. If you don't drive 2 to 3 times per week or more, you can get an electronic battery charger/maintainer and connect it regularly. They are not too expensive now. I drive mine 2,3 or 4 times per week.
Good luck.

Just fyi,

So I trickle charged for two days and got 12.5 volts. Let it sit for two more days and had 11.6 volts. Disconnected the neg cable after dark and threw a test light on it, neg/batt to neg cable. No light. Today i drove to AutoZ and they checked the battery. They said it was definitely a bad battery.
Back on the road.

Nice. I trickle charge mine at least once a month. I don't drive it enough. The radio clock is the only thing that drains the battery. The alarm probably the Viper alarm system too. It does when active. It's not turned on when parked inside the garage.

Update,
The truck sat for three weeks and started fine. Sat for two more weeks, no start, 10.8 volts.
Trickled it for a day and went to have the battery checked at Wally. Tested bad the first time and good the second so they did replace it but they didn't have that same one. Upgraded to slightly bigger one, no fee. Surprise! 😊

Hopefully this is the fix.

Nice. I need to put an amp clam on mine. I would like to know the milliamp dra2 just parked inside the garage. We have to remember radio and wiper motor have power on all the time.

Call me crazy but when my truck is in the garage I still have the alarm on. Most garage doors are pretty easy to break into, I've learned after watching a locksmith open mine (without even picking the lock - I've since hardened the entry a bit) - so I figure I'll go ahead and set the alarm just to be safe. The truck has other antitheft measures as well, being that I live in Houston.. you have to do the most.

For sure in Houston! I'm temped now to hide an air tag on it. Somewhere not easy to find.

I would suggest 2 or 3, but first look up on youtube how to disable the speaker in them. Otherwise in the event the truck is stolen, the thief's phone will alert them a tag is "following" them (the anti-stalking measure Apple built into iOS) and they can make the tag beep so they can find it. Samsung Galaxy Smart Tags are the same way, and the speaker can also be disabled pretty easily.

I just had Ravelco come out and install their setup on my new-to-me '94 C1500; I've also got it on both our '06 SS's.

Not crazy at all.
These trucks are really getting popular and prices are getting stupid. The guys at Wally that tested the battery wanted to know if I would consider selling and my newest neighbor who bought my cargo trailer after I retired wants it too.

I've been considering installing a kill switch after I figure out how to bypass the stereo memory.

I'll have to look into Ravelco.

Cutting power to the HEI is an easy way to keep it from starting. It will crank, but not spark. Cutting power to the starter solenoid is another options. My alarm cuts power to the starter.
