Good evening have not posted in a while, but now I have an issue. I have a 63 impala with a 350 engine. Car has HEI ignition, new engine wiring harness, moved solenoid to firewall good well charged battery, car has been cranking and running fine, but had not cranked the car in about 6-8 months. Today went to start the car open the driver's door interior lights came on, turned the switch key heard what sounded like a pop come from the battery and everything went dead, starter did not click or try to kick in, all interior lights went out, turned key several times nothing everything is dead. Hook battery charger leads to the car's battery cables no power coming into the car, put battery in another car and the car crank. Bottom line no power at the key switch, no power to any lights, gauges, horn, car is totally dead. Need a starting point or does someone know what's going on?

Check your harness connection at the bulkhead connector that connects to the fuse box. You stated you changed the engine harness did you replace it with one that was modified for HEI or did you modify it yourself?
Did you replace your headlight harness?

Good evening, I changed all the cars wiring harness, did not make any modifications to any of the harness, and I did buy the harness for HEI. Thanks for the insight, I will check the harness.

Are you using a generator or an alternator? If you are using an alternator, is it internal or external regulated alternator?
I would check at the source (battery) and start looking for shorted circuits. Tracing the constant hot wires (you should have two) from the battery to the horn relay, the other one from the battery to the starter. Then follow the hot wires from there to the bulkhead connectors.
This will give you a starting point. If you don't have a wiring diagram for your car, you will want to buy the manuals so you have a reference.

Did you check the horn relay?
By pass it and see what happens.
The 'juice' runs through the horn relay before it gets to the voltage regulator.

hope your paying attention. those other guys are right. i will add this. electrical connections are not just nuts and bolts. the connections must be shiney metal clean. good to put some grease on them after everything is torqued down.
