I know this is the wrong place to ask this question, but I need an answer real soon and there are a lot of smart chevy guys on this forum. Here is the question. It's on a 1955 Chevy Truck with a 235...... Does anyone have information on changing from generator to alternator and keeping the starter that has the floor start you push with your foot? A wiring diagram would be great. I am changing from generator to alternator on a Chevy 235 motor. 1.Can I use a Floor starter with the alternator?? 2.Will I still need to use the ballast resistor because it has a Pertronix Electronic Ignition in the distributor. Thank for any help.

The floor starter function has no connection/issue with an alternator change. Pretty sure the pertronix conversion eliminates the ballast, check wiring diagram in the instruction sheet. All the ones I have done with matching coil were 12v, non resisted.

Thanks. I am just trying to find out about using the same key switch and the ballast resistor. I don't know anything about the coil, but one guy told me to buy an MSD 8202 coil. So, I am going to check that out also. Not sure if the plain jane coil I now have will work. The wiring kit I got from the guy had no instructions but was supposed to be for an old chevy truck. Thanks again.

I would suggest getting a coil from Pertronix to match the conversion, also you can get a diagram online. Do not use solid core non rfi plug wires with Pertronix.
