Hello All, up until a week ago my 1965 impala was running fine. I took her out for our normal Sunday evening cruse and she started to cough a sputter. I had to start her twice before I got her home, and once we got home she ccough and cut off and hasn't started since. I thought it was bad gas so I got out all the old gas and put in the highest octane I could find in this area which is 94 octane. I also replaced my battery because it was old anyway. even after all that the car still wont turn over, its like there is no power coming into the cockpit of the car, no interior lights or instrument panel lights or sounds. but the car was running fine two days before that fatal Sunday drive. Any input on what it could be???. Any input is knowledge I don't have and would be greatly appreciated

Have a look at the junction block connections under the lip of the rad support near the battery, and from the junction block over to the horn relay on the other side. Check your connections at the starter, and check your battery cables too. If they have replacement heads on old cables they might not be conducting or grounding properly.

When i put my key in the ignition and turn the key to on , nothing turns on or turns over as I call it with a brand new battery in the car. It seems like the power is not reaching the the ignition switch to start the vehicle, no interior lights or dashboard lights just silence

Buy an inexpensive volt ohm meter (VOM) at an auto aprts store.

Set it up for DC volts and start checking for power at various terminals. Read up on how to use it if you don't know. Check the main starter post and the various otehr power wires. Get a wiring diagram off the internet. There are probably some posted on this forum.

But first, take off the battery cables from the battery, and use a pocket knife or sand paper to clean the inside of the cable terminals where they contact the battery posts.

lead oxide build up there, doesn't let power go any where.

Often there is an issue with the two bulk connectors on the engine side that plug into the back of the fuse block. Depress the tabs and pull them out and check the ground wire, pretty sure the one on the right. It arcs at times and can melt the wire or just a bad connection that can cause this issue but check them both

check battery connections as noted. those take apart terminals are famous for internal corrosion. make sure you have good grounds and direct to block.

Get under the dash and make sure you don't have burned up or loose wires on the back of the ignition switch. My car would loose power through the red wire on the switch while driving. Turned out to be a bad connection and overheating.

Thank you, problem found. it was the negative battery cable where it bolts to the engine block. At first glance the cables look fine but when i moved the cable to the right or left where it bolt s to the engine i noticed that the cable was frayed and green corrosion was on the inside of the frayed wire. I ordered two new battery cables positive and negative installed them and the car started up. Thank You for your checking wire connection suggestions.

found it!!!!!, it was the negative battery cable where it bolts to the engine block, it was frayed and had green corrosion on the inside of the wire. where it bolts to the battery was fine no corrosion but where it bolted to the engine block was the issue. Bought two new cables positive and negative and the impala started right up, Thanks

no fuses were blown, it was a bad ground cable that bolts to the engine block, it was frayed and had green corrosion on the inside of the cable. I replaced the cable and my 65 impala lighted up and started up, THANKS

Thank You, thats what the problem was, a bad ground cable that bolts to the engine block. The cable was frayed and there was green corrosion on the inside of the wire and some of the coating had started to melt. But the connection to the top of the battery was fine, it was where it bolts to the engine block, CRAZY. Got new cables and she started up!!THANKS
