With the miles on this HHR, the rear axle has some loose play in the rear axle bushings. Any one had them changed out and what did it cost? I would like to replace them with solid machined urethane bushings for longer wear and easier installation. It looks like removing the old bushings is the big problem. I want to do one side at a time so nothing gets disconnected.

The problem I am facing is the result of too many miles on Illinois salted roads in the winter. I really don't want to remove the 2 steel plates that hold the axle bushing bolts to the body. I was going to try to dam up the space around the sides and bottom of the bushings with latex caulking to form a mold for pouring new, tough, epoxy rubber into the bushing area. I have found an epoxy rubber that has a solid strength and toughness, that it is called indestructable. Today I put the HHR on my hoist and looked over the possibility of my idea. I found out that they are not that loose (does not affect highway driving). There is not much room for working on them without removing the 3 bolts and dropping the axle housing down a bit. Gonna think on it a while longer.
