Walking around at a local car show, I found a '56 Chevy with heater hose bypass valves. I like them. I didn't find the owner to ask the brand name. Has anyone seen them? When the A/C is off, having a bypass will help keep the cab cooler. The continuous fan low speed heats up the cab way too much.

you only need one. the input to heater core. a simple ball valve will work good.

Hey bobb, I hadn't thought about installing just one. I could try that first. If enough heat is reduced, no need for complete flow cut off.

I haved used a simple ball valve in the heater core supply hose for years on numerous vehicles. My 83 G20, 87 G20, 97 Express and 2006 Ram to name a few.

I heard about this a few years ago. After reading this, I'm thinking about doing it. Is there an actual noticeably difference using a cutoff valve?

A four port valve is on order. I'll post a picture once I have it installed.

Yes, heat temps will be different. Even with the heater/A/C off, the blow motor still spins. With hot water in the heater, the heat is transferred into the cab. It's very noticeable on mine. The A/C system will work better too.

I have a 4 speed fan with AC. I have removed the low speed wire from resistor connector so now I have a 3 speed fan with an off position. I did not like the fan running all the time, especially in winter cause when starting, the default setting was air was blowing from AC vents and it was cold.

Here's the heater core bypass valve. I plan to drain enough coolant to install it. Quick switch over when the heater is needed. The A/C will work better too.

I put a single shutoff valve, like in the first photo, in my grain hauling trucks. I shut the valve during harvest so no water flows.

The bypass valve is installed. I didn't get a chance to turn it on. I'll bleed out the air next week. I pumped out about a gallon of coolant. It was enough not spill any at the heater hoses. It's in the bypass position. A simple turn will allow hot water into the core. It will be nice not to have excess heat in the cab.
