Did the 1998 Suburban 2500/w/454 have dual batteries in the stock configuration?

Like bobb alluded to, it's likely a factory option. It would not automatically come with dual batteries.

You may find that option on the sticker in your glovebox, the SPID (service parts identification) label. The 3 digit codes on that label correspond to all the different options the vehicle is built with. There are some sites that will decode it for free - you can try the NHTSA website and enter your VIN. For some vehicles it will break down the list of options for you. Or some that cost a few bucks like Compnine. Also, your local Chevy/GM dealer should be able to give you a build report printout based on the VIN if you ask them nicely.

I did not see any mention of it in the generic info packet in the GM Heritage Center archive:

https://www.gm.com/content/dam/company/n o_search/h...

During the squarebody era ('73-'91), RPO TP2 Dual Battery was available only on pickup, not SUV. There was an SEO (specialty equipment option) for fleet use that would add a dual battery to a Suburban. I do not remember the code off hand.

I cannot speak with authority regarding the GMT400 versions (1992 and newer).

Also - keep in mind there were two different dual battery configurations.

TP2 provided a primary battery for vehicle use (like cranking) and the second battery for camper/trailer use. The second battery was isolated from primary so that you wouldn't accidentally run it down and not be able to start your vehicle.

For diesel - the two batteries were wired equally (in parallel) so that both were used for cranking.

If yours is a factory set up then it would be the first type.
