I would like to swap out my original differential with a more modern unit which will allow me to cruise at highway speeds. I’ve read that plug and play units are available to accomplish this. Obviously, I would prefer being economical and find a unit at a local salvage yard. Can somebody give me a list of vehicles that would be compatible with my 1950 Chevy 3600 original read end?

I can't figure out how to quote your message, but suffice to say you'll probably need a '54 or newer rear axle if you want to get rid of the torque tube, which is not compatible with much.
You're going to need the open driveshaft also.
I don't know about the width of the 3600, since it's a big truck, and I have a '46 3100. I used a '55 rear axle.
Do you have a 261 inline 6 in your 3600?

No, I have a SB Chevy 307, factory HO52 Eaton rear end with 4.57 gearing. No driveshaft yet. I’ve spent hours gleaning, sorting thru information and believe only a 4.10 differential will work to allow me to keep the original axel housing. No Eaton axel was ever made with 4.11 gearing. No companies make an after market 4.11 ring and pinion. Apparently certain C-20, K-20 and C-30 Chevy truck models from 1968-1972 with Eaton HO52 rear ends and 4.10 gears will allow for a direct differential carrier swap out. Oh, 3.90 gears are too tall for my housing also. Does anyone concur or disagree with this info?

This is correct from the research I've done. Here's a link: https://www.stovebolt.com/techtips/axles/1%20To n%2...
I sourced one and am about to do the swap. Tough to find these

Ok, I figured out how to quote your post...I don't come around here too often, so please forgive me for the slow reply.
You can replace the ring/pinion in the axle you have. You should have a torque tube, it's not compatible with any of the aftermarket stuff, but you could put a 3.55:1 ring/pinion combo in that,
Here's a page that shows how it's done.

Another forum that discusses it.

Finally, here's one from Chevs of the 40s. They sell the ring/pinion gears, but I got mine from Joe Mendoza at Mother Trucker in Arizona. He hangs out of the HAMB and Stovebolt, AFAIK, but not here. Keeping the torque tube you can go to 3.55:1 and using a '54 or newer that had 3.90:1 will be able to upgrade to a 3.38:1. The axles are not compatible, so you can't interchange them.

Here's the gears that will fit your truck:

Hey Gunk have you completed your swap yet? How’d it go? Thanks for your post. I was just wondering if you had anything else to add to the swap that maybe the video didn’t discuss, thanks again
