My dash pad is cracked (1968 Impala non-A/C black interior). In looking for replacements I see OER has a correct looking photo for all interior colors EXCEPT black. That seems impossible so I assume it was just a loaded stock image but I was wondering if anyone has purchased one.

I also see that The Parts Place has a plastic dash cover which is meant to fit over your OE cracked dash. It looks like someone did a nice job of following the shape but does anyone have first hand experience with the cover. It is meant to actually fool the eye as well. They claim it's very difficult to tell the difference based on appearance.

Edit: The Classic industries PN for the OER part is PN 7734038.

Thank you,
Scott

I have the cover on my '68, dyed Ivy Gold, and do not like it at all, either fit or finish. I THINK it came from Classic Industries, but can't remember for sure. I'm spending all my extra $ on getting my '70 Elky on the road, or I'd have swapped it out a long time ago.

Thanks Dave. I wasn't certain what to do. I decided to try the OER 7734038 PN. I just hope that the black was the first part they made and that simply means the "stock-photo" was never updated to actual. All of the rest of their 68 dash pads look exactly as we would expect from the photos.

I ended-up buying the OER PN. The photo was just a generic stock photo. The actual part is the 68 specific reproduction. It looks very nice. I wanted to make certain I had a few other things in the dash taken care-of but I did a rough test fit and it looks like it likely fits well. I will report again once it's finally secured.

I thought about repairing the original. I've seen where cracks are removed but while the crack was isolated the old foam/vinyl covering has seen a lot of UV and heat and a lot of it is brittle; more than I suspected That made me think it would be a little more difficult to repair and probably even for the professionals.
