I drive a 2001 Sierra K1500 Z71 extended cab with 206,000 miles. While it runs great, or at least does not give me any problems, with the age and mileage I am leaning towards a newer truck. My main concern is the Active Fuel Management. Perhaps my first question in this area is, when if ever did GM work our the problems with the AFM system? Are the issues with AFM over blown? As usual any and all information and or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

i would seriously consider keeping it. the newer it is the more gizmoes they put into it. it aint no fun anymore. literaly everything runs off of or through a computer nowadays. gotta scan for anyhting that is not a fuse or relay failure.

70 L camino, grampa engine, g-force 5 spd, road rage suspension. Pray first before all else fails.

If you are buying used then buy a 6.2L engine up to 2013 models as the ones in trucks did not have AFM until the 2014 model years, the SUV's had AFM in the 6.2L. All other engine had it from 2008 to current day. I had a 2017 6.2L Sierra Denali and never had lifter issues in the 60,000+ miles I had it. My 2021 6.2L Sierra Denali has 34,000 trouble free miles. My neighbor has a 2008 GMC 5.3L with over 150,000 miles and no lifter issues.

Picked up a 2022 Sierra 1500 SLT with 26,000 miles and the longer bed. I'll try to add photos in a few days.

We cousins :wink :

Just bought a 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 LT and negotiated $9k off MSRP. I brag about it every chance I get!

Buy and use a Range AFM disabler from Amazon $210 and keep the correct recommended engine oil changed at least every 5,000 miles. Or be satified with a pre AFM truck. They'll run for 300,000 miles plus if you take care of them and do regular maintenance.
