I'm trying to figure out what type of sealent to use on my new head bolts. Some say tape is the best, others say the stuff in a tube or bottle. Some say both tape and liquid. I ran a bolt chaser numerous times, Used both air and vacuum on the bolt holes. I only want to do this once and reading positive and negative on a product is confusing. Can you guys help me.

Why anything unless they go into the water jacket.

I'm not an expert, but used loctite brand thread Teflon thread sealer paste about 3/8 " from the end of each bolt, and dipped the tip in oil to torque down the heads.
The block is a '207' cast from an '84 corvette, every head bolt hole was into the water jacket, I checked with a small screwdriver.

FWIW, the only thread sealer ARP suggests is their paste, or "a high temperature thread sealer". You don't want to use anything that will have an adverse impact on bolt torque. Hard to imagine that teflon tape would be an issue with torque by why gamble. Tape also runs the risk of a piece coming off and ending up somewhere you don't want it.

Teflon tape is not a sealer, it is a lubricant for pipe threads. You shouldn't use it on head bolts.
Some of the teflon pastes are also lubricant only; others are sealants. Read the label or otherwise check the product out.
Silicone is generally not advised, but it does work. It's also a mess to clean up if you tear down the engine in the future.

i like thread sealer on all the bolts to get the same torque drag. also put some oil under the head of the bolts. stock head bolts suck, they dont have a good load bearing surface and can damage the top of the hole in the head. adding washers will decrease thread engagement too much.
