I had a heck of time lifting that cast iron head off the engine. I can only imagine how difficult it will be lifting it and placing on the engine without damaging the head gasket. Any suggestions besides Hulk Hogan.

Put some long studs in a couple of the head bolt holes to guide the head in place and either get some help or use a engine lift.

when doing heavy awkward jobs like that, i sometimes put wood strips down to protect the surface. then i do the alignment and remove the strips.

The factory hollow dowels provide all the alignment needed. Long studs and other just complicate installation. The real issue is OP cannot lift alone. As suggested above get a helper or two and a beer or two for the helper(s), or get out the checkbook or credit card. It may even be an issue to provide the necessary torque to the head bolts depending on OP's actual situation.
