I have a 4 bolt 350, and a crank that came with it. Took it to be bored because of cylinder scratches. Got it back 30 over. Shop said the crank was not a truck crank, turned it 10 under. Ordered stock replacement cast pistons, One place, and stock replacement rods another. Managed to put pistons on rods, installed new mains and rod bearings. Put Number One, in block, and counter weights, on crank hit bottom of piston skirt while rotating, and piston comes up out of cylinder, about 1/8". What are your thoughts?

Sounds like wrong crank? What is the casting number? You could also measure the total stroke if you can get one revolution, but it sounds like that won't work.

It's not the wrong crank, it's the wrong pistons.

Could be, but the assumption is the machine shop would know better. :sad :

If the pistons stick out past the deck, either the pistons are for a smaller stroke than expected, or the crank has more stroke than expected.
Since the engine is said to be a 350, if 327 pistons were used they would stick out. But there is no factory crank that has more stroke that would actually fit in the block.

Agreed, but what crank is in there, no info to be sure. But, most likely it is the piston/ rod combo.

Truely a question.
How about the 400 cu in sbc factory engine crank? 'Fit' the 350 block?

The main bearing journals on a 400 SBC crank are bigger than on a 350 crank.

Machine shop only had block and crank, it appears that somewhere, in my ordering parts, I obtained 327 pistons 30 over. Crank casting #3932442
Fairly typical problem with our hobby-Order parts, they set there for weeks or months, maybe years then you find out too late, and have to order more parts, end up with a large inventory of possibly unknown pieces.

That is a 350 crank...and it looks like it is not a HD crank.

uh, a good machine shop would want the pistons in hand to measure before bore and hone.

My question today-Is there anything wrong with using bushed rods and snap ring pistons and pins in the assembly of my street driven 350?
