Anyone use a Block and tackle connected to a ceiling joist to pull out a short block 350. Only the internals in the Block. If so how did you rigg the joist for the lift.

Depends on the length of the span, you should try and vertical reinforce also, maybe double up the joist also. Did this in my one car garage.

If you have room enough,lay a 4"X4"across at least 3 joists to spread the weight across a larger area.A couple of 2"X4"on edge or a 2"X6" on its edge would work,too.

your looking at 200 pounds. i would not like to use wood. a glue lam beam would be preferable if it is wood. 4x8 comes up in my mind with 4x4 posts to hold it up. tie it into the existing for stability. might be overkill but if it all goes wrong you are in for a big mess. with the 4x8 you could probly do a complete engine. about 600 pounds
