Got the leaky head off. The issue was the gasket. The elderly man I purchased the 55 from said when it ran it has a cam. He said nothing radical. He has no idea of the make or model. He had a fire in his garage and most of his papers were destroyed. I was wondering why there were burn areas on the paint. Since I've gone this far, I'd like to get aluminum heads. Is it necessary that I know the type of cam. It has solid lifters now. I would want new rockers and roller lifters,if possible.

You would have to take the cam gear off and get the number off the cam journal, then research it.

That made my decision. Not going that far with tearing down. Going to just replace the gasket button it up and move on to the next issue on this beater.
