Is the following O-ring fuel resistant? Purchased a Stant O-ring #27286 O-ring for my fuel filler tube into gas tank. Correct diameter and thickness but the Stant website says it's for thermostat housing. Contacted Stant but have not received any reply. Does anybody know?

I would say probably not. Contact the manufactured again. If you asked via a website, generally response is poor. Find a direct contact. For example, fuel line hose is different from general rubber hose. Also, on my older GM car the fuel filler is connected to the tank with a hose. I bought specific GM hose rated for fuel for that application.

If the o-ring material cannot be confirmed suitable for fuel, I'd replace it with a verified one.

For material application/compatibility vs. material go to the following site:

https://www.mcmaster.com/products/o-rings/

At the top, click on "more about o-rings" for a chart of material vs. compatibility.

Thanks. Went to the website and could not believe all the grades of material for O-rings. Will order one from Woody's. I know they have the right one. I don't want to pull the tank again because of a faulty $3 item.

I was putting a new lower fill pipe and also a new tank in my 57. I was trying to get everything pre-purchased so I would have it all and ready.
I went to a local parts place to ask about the Oring for the fill pipe, they didn't have it but steered me to another place not far away. This place handles nothing but orings and sells by the box. They had what I needed and it cost me 68 cents.
Then when my new tank came, it also came with an oring which surprised me. Now I have extra parts, an oring and a pair of rubber gaskets for the sending unit which I won't use.

Why not use the stock replacement part? https://www.muttonhollowchevys.com/search.asp?keyw...
