Twist and Shout. That's me and The Isley Brothers. Trying to remove the filler tube from my 56 sedan delivery (same as wagon and Nomad). Tank is drained, all rear end drop procedures understood etc. but the filler tube won't budge. Yes, I removed the bolts holding the tube to the body. Tank was drained 10+ years ago so I was thinking of filling the tank with water and cutting the filler pipe in half and use a rubber sleeve to reconnect after I clean or replace the tank (possibly with a new filler pipe, but the seal around the tail light is tight and in good condition). Any suggestions?

Followed most of what the shop manual says but filler tube can't slide out of tail light while other end is still in tank. So....disconnected the shocks, drive shaft and U-bolts. Slid the entire rear axle assembly forward on the spring leaves. Now have lots of room to drop the tank while sliding the filler tube forward and out.
