Hello everyone. I have a 1971 chevy nova and am currently restoring it. Got a question about the rearend on this puppy. It has a power glide 2 speed transmission and stock 10 bolt rear end. I am not a gear guy but I have currently exposed the gears to replace the gasket. I remember last time I drove this car about 20 years ago it had a roar. I wanted to either change the gears with new as stock or I even thought about putting Posi traction gears in it. It has a 305 small block in it as well. Gonna run a 205 60 15 possibly all around. Gonna drive and cruise but may be interstate driving as well. Any suggestions I gear sets for this without totally ruining the gas mileage, has good traction and does not tach the engine too much. Thanks any input.

welcome to ct. did the oil come out clean? are the gears nice looking? you could always put in a lunchbox locker. but im not a big fan of them.

The oil looked good considering. Not familiar with gears and rear ends. The only numbers I saw were 3969340 NF , GM72 , G290 and that’s it. A buddy seems to think the setup currently is 3.08 gear setup.

The ring gear should have 2 numbers like 10 31, which when divided is 3.10. Most common was 2.73,
