I need to replace the heat riser that goes into the exhaust pipe on our '58 348. What other engines use this same part? Would a heat riser from a '68 small block Camaro fit?

Any suggestions on where to find/order one?

Thanks folks!

I'm not familiar with the diameter of the 348 exhaust pipe. If it's 2 1/2", this should be an alternative:

If it's 2"; there's a different part # for that.

There is also a simple 'spacer', if you wish to look at that.

I do not know the diameter of that Camaro SBC exhaust pipe. But, match the diameters of the exhaust pipes.

Looking at one of the heat riser gaskets on Rock Auto for a 58 Impala w/348 - there are a ton of GM vehicles that use the same gasket, so I'd imagine that other than the diameter of the pipe, nothing special about the 348 engine.

People fear change because it threatens what they know, or what they claim to know.

Back in those days there were only TWO sizes of exhaust pipe which bolted to the exhaust manifold: 2in and 2 1/2in Period.
Thus, there were ONLY TWO sizes of exhaust heat riser flapper valves. Period
Small blocks (depending on which engine option) used both 2in and 2 1/2in.
W-motors (again, depending on engine option) used both 2in and 2 1/2in.
ALLLLLLLLLLLLLL Big block exhaust manifolds (396-402-427-454) ONLY had 2 1/2in outlets. Thus, alll BBs used the 2 1/2in heat riser valve.

This is what a Hi-perf (60-61) 348 manifold with 2 1/2in outlet looks like (top), and then in 63-64 is the 409 manifolds which sort of are made like headers (bottom).
ALLLLLLLLLL W-motor manifolds will bolt up to ANY W-motor head (348-409-427).

Thanks for the detailed answer and pictures. Our 348 had the 2" exhaust system. I bought a heat riser for a '67 Camaro and it looks exactly like the original.
