Anyone here restored a remote mirror before? I have a few and wanna rechrome them but don’t quite understand how’d they come apart outside of breaking the glass. Any help?

What shape is the glass? I don't know the 65-66 well but the 1968's originally had a snap ring which holds the glass in. I had my car for many years and never even noticed it until I really started reading a lot about mirrors. I had to look at mine and sure enough snap ring and date code.

I don't know what they would have done if rectangular mirrors were handled in a similar manner. Some later 80's remote mirror will typically tilt just enough to remove a large Phillips head screw though.
