Anyone here restored a remote mirror before? I have a few and wanna rechrome them but don’t quite understand how’d they come apart outside of breaking the glass. Any help?

I’ve never heard of a remote mirror. Post a picture so I can see what you are talking about.

I can’t post pics here but they are a very rare option for 64. I’ve seen very few on cars in my days. I’ve owned quite a few but rarely saw cars with them from the dealer or factory.

I wonder if there is anything in the assembly manual?

Do you have the remote mirror in a vehicle and need to know how to remove it from the car or your are asking how to remove the glass etc with it already removed from the vehicle? Or both?

I’ve seen a 64 SS with that option, it reminded me of the later remote mirrors that operated by cables. They were used into the 80’s IIRC and would be the same in BOP vehicles.

My 64 Belair has a factory remote mirror. I had to put a glass in years ago. If I recall correctly the mirror snaps into a white plastic piece that has the cables connected to it. I believe someone repopped that plastic piece. Use caution. Memory is fading. There differences between the 64 fullsize and the Z16 mirror cosmetically.

I believe the first remote mirror I recall was on my dad’s new 65 Caprice. So was 64 the first year? What amazed me was how they worked. Some jerk had knocked it off (vandalism) so got to see the inner workings. Three separate cables connected the mirror head to the toggle like control on the inside door panel… simple but effective!

They were an option in 1961.

Does anyone have a picture of one installed? I've never seen one on our cars.

Sorry for the poor resolution of these images of the 1964 Chevrolet remote-control outside mirror, allowing adjustment without lowering the window. Included in RPO Z13, Comfort & Convenience Equipment Type "B."

Doing a frame off now and might be interested once you get the parts back. What a find! If nothing else this has been educational.
Thanks for asking the question and sharing.
