ok,here we go. my power steering was leaking, i removed the pump with the generator and rebuilt the pump. installed the generator and pump back in the car. (pump in mounted on the back of the generator)
now my generator light is on. i poloirized both generator and regulator. i disconnected the wires to the armature put the postive lead to the generator negative lead to ground im getting negative 24v form the generator. is this possible?
and what could be causing it? thanks in advance
i have checked all of the grounds

Put everything back to original. Start the car, momentarily ground the field terminal on the generator. You should see 15-16v at the battery. Post back the results. This isolates the gen output potential.

I DID AS YOU SUGGESTED GROUNDED FIELD TERMINAL, NO INCREASE IN VOLTAGE AT BATTERY POSTIVE POST.
ANYOTHER SUGGESTIONS?

Check for continuity from the main terminal on the generator to the A terminal on the regulator. You should have a wiring diagram to track down the circuits.

Forgot, when you momentarily ground the field on the generator, see if you have 15v at the main large terminal on the generator.
