Hi Guys, I'm planning on having the steering changed out on my 52. I have adjusted the play out of it until it's time to change it out. I have purchased a Vega steering box and would like to add a new tilt steering column and steering wheel while making the swap. What length steering column have you guys been using? I would like the wheel to be a little closer to the dash maybe 1" - 2"? What about a horn, does it come with a steering wheel? Besides a universal, what else will I need to purchase?
I have another choice after talking to the shop about making the change. After I explained what I wanted to do he suggested I use an electric steering unit. I don't know of anyone that has done this swap on our year chevy. I went on line and it can be a bit expensive for a new unit at $1,450. or they have them out of some models of Toyota for about a third of a new one. Has anyone out there made this swap? Did you use a new unit or a used unit. How difficult was the job and how did it turn out? The fit?
Thanks for the response and link to the thread. I did a search but didn't come up with anything. That was quite a thread and looks like a lot of work? I wouldn't need to worry about shifter linkage since I have floor shifter. The price quoted for a 2016 is enough to scare me off, since todays prices should prove to be much higher. I guess I will have to stay with original choice, using the Vega steering box? Again thanks for the response. Have a good weekend.
