Hello all, Cody here, got a question for you. I have a 1953 Chevy 210 4 door with a 3 on the tree tranny, I want to know where to find replacement parts for the transmission. It has a 56 235 in it and the tranny looks like a muncie 318 but am not sure. It has a torque tube closed drive line if that helps. Where can new gears be sourced for these trannys? I want to keep it original with the three on the tree, so if any of you know where new gears can be sourced, let me know. I know nos stuff pops up now and then but I want to try to find new stuff first so the good nos stuff doesnt get used up. Any companies doing custom gears for these trannys?

I would get a parts book so you can identify what you're looking for by part number. That way you can narrow your search. Is it not shifting properly? Noisy? grinding? It may be easier to find a complete transmission, rebuild that and just swap it out. Where are you located?

Sorry I haven't replied sooner, things got out of hand and been working my rear end off. but to answer the question, yes, bit of grind in first but that's normal for a non synchro. sounds like a whirring sound at idle with the clutch out, like a bearing or maybe worn gears. it shifts up and down decently, but it makes a lot of gear whine, tranny oil is topped up with the correct stuff so I imagine it's just plain worn out. I have been trying to go b part numbers but it seems all the stuff available is either used or no longer available. every now and then nos stuff shows up, but since chevy kept changing the design of the parts, who knows if it will fit?
