Just got to work and on the way the new blower motor was working for half a minute, then quit just as I switched over to defrost. Assuming that was just coincidence on the timing.
Haven't looked but betting on the fuse since it popped with the old squeaky motor too. Is there a resistor or something else in line I should be looking at? Gonna be a cold one tonite and probably need the defrost in the morning.

If you have a meter, turn fan switch on and test connector on motor to confirm voltage and work from there.

The fan speed resistor is located on the evaporator housing. Slightly up and right of your blower motor. If the fan is squeaky, replace it. It's eating amps to spin. The amps will blow fuses. You can buy a motor with or without a squirrel cage. The OEM squirrel cage can be swapped over.

New resistors in and so far no blown fuse. Ran it on the speed just below hi for ten minutes. Too chicken to turn the fan on high yet until this cold front passes thru.

'85 4wd Suburban.
Needed the defroster this morning, slid it on and saw the dash lights flicker, then heard a pop. Makes no sense since it ran for ten minutes the other day.

Gonna pick up a relay tomorrow and ordered a set of ATC fuse shaped manual reset circuit breakers which should be here Saturday.

Just FYI,
The set of 5,10,15,20,25, and 30 amp circuit breakers came early. Installed the 25 amp breaker, new blower motor relay, and so far everything works. After some reading a typical bad relay will pop the fuse so hopefully that was my problem.

Defrost activates the AC system. On an 85 it should have a throttle kicker solenoid on the carb, wiring to the cycling switch and the a/c clutch. That wiring covers alot of the engine and engine compartment and at the age of the truck, could easily be shorted out. It is very possible your fuse blowing has nothing to do with the blower motor or resistor itself.
I had a problem with my van popping the fuse years ago. It was a shorted diode on the ac clutch connector. I replaced the connector with a new one that included a new diode and never had the issue again.
