My 2003 Suburban had electrical trouble with the instrument cluster.

I found a really nice 2004 truck cluster with an additional temp gauge.

Can I use the cluster and just let the gauge unused ?

Thx

Ramey

If the additional gauge is the trans temp gauge, I’m under the impression that if you use that dash the trans temp gauge would actually work in your truck.

Depending on the issue, there used to be, and probably still are, a ton of companies that you could mail your gauge cluster to for inexpensive repair and updates to better stepper motors etc.

Thanks for the reply.

Any idea if it would fry anything or
just simply not work (the trans temp
gauge)? I don’t mind if if doesn’t work,
I just don’t want to smoke it.

My understanding is that it will actually work as the trucks without the trans gauge have the sensor and wiring already installed just not the gauge.

A number of years ago, cluster rebuilds were like $60-80 but I’m sure it’s more now.

I can confirm that if you plug it in, the trans temp gage will work fine. I did this my '03 suburban when the original cluster stopped working. One word of caution is that the odometer will now be different. I'm not sure if it matters much to you, but when you sell the vehicle, the odometer change may be a red flag to a potential buyer.
