My electrical troubleshooting skills improved after buying a BMW X5. So many modules and wiring inside a BMW. All the gadgets work now. Next, help fix an intermittent Benz crank/no start issue. Not mine but my niece's. I need an oscilloscope.
What do you use? Digital? Hand held? PICO? I'm looking for something to learn on.

There is a cheap tablet scope on Amazon. About $150-200. It works decent for what it is. It has a battery and is touchscreen so would work well in a car testing environment. p/n ADS1013D

Crank no start on Mercedes is almost always either a fuel pump or a crank position sensor.
People fear change because it threatens what they know, or what they claim to know. |

65_Impala,
Do you use it? A two channel would be perfect. As Tony1963 states, crank sensors and fuel pumps are Benz notorious for no start issues. Both have been replaced with OEM or quality parts. The issues still exists. A two channel oscilloscope would help determine which one temporarily cuts out. I'm starting to suspect wiring issues. Once we can determine which one cuts out, we can trace or by pass OEM wiring with new wiring.

Yes, I have one here. Haven't used it for much yet but it'd work for that application.

Great! Thanks for your recommendation! I'll probably order it. I would like a PICO, but wow, it's expensive for my armature use.

When I used a scope they used to be 15 pounds.

i would look at getting the fanciest 2 channel in your budget. the more adjustment you have the easier it will be to read. also try to get a big screen, a small screen is hard to read.
