I have the interior door panel off of one of the doors on my '55 210 2dr. There is a rod that connects the interior door release handle mechanism to the door latching mechanism. The rod is covered with a woven fabric sleeve. About half of the sleeve is missing. Does anyone know what the purpose of the sleeve is? The rod doesn't touch anything between the ends where it is attached. Any ideas would be appreciated.

That is so the rod doesn’t make a rattling noise if it contacts anything. The sleeve doesn’t usually cover the whole rod (not sure how much of the rod gets covered on tri-fives). It usually just covers the section that is likely to rattle.

about halfway the length of that rod there is a clip to support that rod to the door,
you can get that cover material for that,
someone posted a corvette site that has it,
or do like I did, take a foot long piece of shrink tubing and cover it

that original sleave cloth type material is reproduced by someone that sells corvette parts.
but for the price and shipping, electrical shrink tubing is looking good!
