Hi, what is the best way or ways to remove the teardrop clip that is held on by the fork on the back of the lockset on the front door of a 65' impala. Im guessing just taking needle nose pliers and twisting off the fork but thought there may be another way.
thanks jim

Long screwdriver, tapping on each side. maybe some WD40 first. It should come off pretty ezy...

Don't BEND it out of shape and it will go back together NP..

Sorry I didnt mean the fork that holds the lock to the door. I already have the lock out of the door and am replacing with new. i need to reuse the flat clip that is on the back of the old lock. this part is what the linkage rod attaches to.

I am guessing this is the clip you are referring to?
I use a small flat screwdriver and slide it in under the clip towards the bent tab keeping feature . Twist the screwdriver slightly to distort clip until the tab clears the lever hole . At this point the clip can be positioned on the lock cylinder keyed end and removed. I see that some of the clips have a aggressive bend to the tab and others just a slight bend to lock them in place. I removed the one in the picture many times to see if the clip would retain its shape and be reusable. I dont see why the clip would not be able to be removed and reinstalled on a new lock cylinder. But IF you run into problems OR dont feel like you want to trust the old clip , I can fix you up with a couple . TIM
