Can anyone tell me what the two wires with inline devices going to the side terminal junction are for? Maybe an alternator noise filter? I know the red line is the alternator hot wire.

The look like connectors that plug together.
People fear change because it threatens what they know, or what they claim to know. |

I'm still relatively new to the 67-72's but I believe I saw that water proof connector on a 68 I am restoring. Can't remember where, however.
The upper wire with the cylinder-shaped object is a fusible link that goes to the buss bar on the horn relay. I'd have to check diagrams to be certain but it's the power feed to the truck. Another large red wire from the buss goes the firewall bulkhead connector.

Does your truck have an amp gauge? On my 72 C10, the amp gauge was not working. One of those wires is part of a shunt circuit for the amp gauge. The bulge in the wire contains a small fuse. I seem to recall a second fuse on the drivers side in the same area too.
While I suspected one of those fuses was blowen, (they were not) In my case reseating the instrument panel harness plug fixed my amp gauge.

No ammeter, just a voltage meter.

That seems odd to me, every 67-72 chevy truck with a factory gauge package had an AMP gauge, not a volt gauge. Just to verify, we are talking about bottom left most gauge in the instrument panel labeled "battery". With the ignition off, and the needle is in the center position... it's an amp gauge. If a voltmeter the needle would be on the left.
Back to your original question, on the pic you posted, the wire with the bulge (looks like a pull-apart connector) actually contains a tiny mini fuse and there will also be one on the drivers side. You can pull it apart to reveal the fuse and they are replaceable. As I stated in my first post, the circuit is part of a shunt for the amp meter.
A word about amp and volt meters (and I apologize if you know this but I think many may not) a volt meter measures voltage (pressure) while the amp meter measure current (flow). In cars and trucks with an amp gauge they are configured with the needle centered at 0 amps. When the needle deflects to the left it indicates a negative (discharge) flow of current from the battery. When it deflects to the right it indicated a positive current flow (charging) to the battery. To confuse even more, different makes and years would label the gauge "battery" and it could be either one. My 72 C10 is labeled "battery" but is obviously an amp meter for the reasons stated above.
