I know these Corvette pages are very slow if not completely quiet, but, I'd like to see if it can pick up a bit on the C5. I love driving our 99. We got it last year and since then I've come to know just what an amazing automobile the Corvette truly is. This Corvette has been an absolute surprise and a joy when we take it out for the weekend drive. With the top down it is a blast. It cruises so nice and comfortable and tracks like it is on rails. It can be fast when it needs to be. It garners respect and seems to scare a lot of folks as most stay away from it. I see this a lot, especially when stopping at a light or stop sign. They tend to leave some distance between them and the Corvette. The stereo sounds great and with the little device my wife found on line, we can now use her phone to listen to anything that she has downloaded. No need to change the stereo to something newer. As I've gotten get older and the three peddles on the old Chevy has become a little tiresome, our first Corvette has made the old car thing fun again. We might even be looking for a C6 next!

You've had seven before the 93? Amazing. I don't have enough time left! I'm 68 pretty soon and the only space left is where my wife's' 2011 Camaro SS is now sitting. She does like the Vette though. Hmm...

I've bought a new vette every 10 years since the 70's, owned every generation except the C7. Always had an old one on the side since '66.

Not much difference between the C5 and C6. There is a horsepower bump on the C6, I had an '09 with the LS3 but you can't get on the freeway much faster anyway. Loved both cars!

We had her out today for a nice long ride around the Connecticut countryside. With the top down we were dodging the rain clouds the whole time. A few drops on the windshield was it. My wife said we were like Bonnie and Clyde running without a care. I said we were more like Thelma and Louise just not looking for a cliff. I have got to repeat, this Vette is the most amazing ride we've ever owned. I told her I found a 2013 Grand Sport listed in the State. Just about 20 to 30 minutes from us. She said let's go. I said who the hell are you and what did you do with my wife?

Happy birthday!

I have not driven my 1999 Convertible much lately, but each time I do I enjoy it and mean to drive it more.

By the way I bought mine in April 2003 in California, the records show it was first sold in West Hartford Connecticut, guess it wasn’t yours. Lol

Wanting to do some budget updates soon, bought a used LS6 intake, have not installed yet, put Borla classic 4 tip stingers on, sounds better and more fun to drive, let the engine run at higher rpm between shifts just to hear the sound.

Plan to buy cheap long tube 1 7/8 headers called Speed engineering, about 1/3-1/4 price of the big names, but have read of great reviews.

Also want to get the 3.42 differential regeared to 4.10, a place in Texas has about the most competitive pricing to do the work ( I will pull diff and ship to them, get it back and reinstall also replace clutch kit and hydraulics check torque tube for worn parts and replace any as needed), and then send engine control module to a place in New Jersey that offers mail order tunes for $150.00, to dial in stock internal LS1 and help it work with headers and run as good as possible.

Decided to not upgrade to better heads and cam, it can get expensive and then you need to pay for a dyno tune for $600 or more dollars.

Is your car manual or automatic?

Hi and thank you for the Birthday greeting. My, or should I say our, 99 is an automatic. My wife and our youngest daughter both drive it. I needed an easy driving and cruising ride and buying a Corvette was a possibility. I figured I was about the correct age when I passed 65 years old! It took a couple more after that until I took a chance and took an 03 for a test drive. I was blown away by how easy t was to drive and I wasn't intimidated at all. That got me on the hunt and we came upon this 99 one owner convertible with under 20,000 miles. It's a blast. If I were to make one change, it might be for the exhaust. I won't do anything else as it is insured by Hagerty and they would frown upon that and probably raise my premium. I've been watching a 13 Grand Sport listing that I came across. The chances of us buying it are very slim. I still have our 52 and I really have no more room. Dom

You could have the 2.73 rear gears, or the optional 3.15 rear gears for better get up and go.

If you have 2.73 gears and want more get up you can swap in a complete 3.42 C5 differential out of a wrecked manual or Z06 model, and some put in 3000 rpm torque converter to really wake up the automatic C5s, of course PCM needs tune so shift points and speedometer work correctly.

Some just add the 3.42 differential and stick with stock torque converter, of course you can leave it alone just letting you know of updates that add big performance without big $$.

On the exhaust you can’t go wrong with a cat back that makes the car sound better, but they can be pricey, bought mine on a Black Friday sale right after thanksgiving 2020 and saved 10%, so keep your eyes open.

I had no idea what brands sounded like and just chose the Borla S type (s means stinger) also Corsa is said to sound great also, so many choices.

If I had known I would have bought Borla ATAK cat back for C5, it’s supposed to be the loudest, but found out later, still happy with S type.

I think most cost over $1000.00 now.

Corvette tax lol
