I ask this every so often and it's been a while so I thought I'd put it up here again....
Anyone on here have one of the very rare a/c equipped 1972 Z/28 Camaros? I think they built around 251 LT-1 Corvettes with A/C but I've never seen an number on the Camaros. Seems like one would have surfaced by now. Just asking.....

The best source of information would be the GM Heritage Center. However, records that far back are scarce.

Anything else is here say so I'm not sure where else you could look.

Thanks Tony, but I wasn't searching for info. Just wondering if any of our CT folks owned one. Pretty hard to find it seems.....

No A/C on GM Sold Lifer Engines (Mechanical Lifers)

Reason: Solid lifter engines (i.e. Z28 302cid) turn high RPM’s. The A/C compressor and condenser cannot handle the high rpm’s.

El Camino,
There were approx. 252 1972 LT-1 Corvettes made with A/C very late in the model year. There were a number of 1972 Z-28s made as well, but I've no idea how many. Of course ALL had solid lifters. These cars were produced, without question. I've seen several of the Corvettes but very few of the Camaros. I was an Asst Sales manager at the time and ordered ALL the cars for a large Chevy dealer in Atlanta at that time. Our Zone manager passed the word to us ahead of the factory correspondence and we got a few of each. Seems they had an abundance of LT-1s that no one wanted since prior to this you couldn't order them with A/C. Strange that the Corvettes are so well documented and almost nothing on the 350/LT-1 powered Z/28.
Thanks for your input.

Today the vehicle's PCM would disengage the compressor as the RPM reached the design limit of the compressor. Back then, it was simply not installed.
