Does anyone know the correct size of rear oil galley plug on 57 283. The hole size is .512.
Thanks

Thanks for the reply Wayne. 57 had press in plugs. I may have to drill and tap for a pipe plug but engine is together in car and would be scared to get metal shavings in oil passages. I was hoping to replace the press in plug that was leaking. Been to NAPA and several engine machine shops and each had different sizes (.512 to .534). Thanks again.

SORRY, I MUST HAVE BEEN THINKING OF SOMETHING ELSE.. ARE YOU SAYING IT IS A FREEZE OR EXPANSION TYPE PLUG?? ANY GOOD/OLD AUTO PARTS MAN SHOULD BE ABLE TO LOOK IT UP..

Thanks, your thinking is correct. Sometime in the late 60's or early 70's Chevy went to the screw in pipe plugs, before that had the press in plugs. I think what the parts places and machine shops are giving me are freeze plugs, which are different size. I may have to drill and tap for 3/8 npt plug.
Was hoping to find the correct press in plug size.
Thanks again,
Rwalker

You are referring to the oil gallery plug or the rear cam plug?

People fear change because it threatens what they know, or what they claim to know.

Not sure the size but any auto parts store should have them in stock and give you the size.

Thanks for the replies. Found some oil plugs at an old auto machine shop in nearby town. What the parts places and machine shops have been giving me are freeze plugs, which are smaller than the oil plugs. The diameter of the oil plugs are .524.
Thanks again
