Hi ,this is my first post and new to the forum. I just acquired a 68 Camaro. It is a 350 with TH350 trans.The engine is in need of a rebuild. I also recently picked up another 350 .It looks to be in really good condition . the numbers on the new engine is 14093638 .5.7LG sgi .The history is that it was built and sat .Anyway first issue i can see is the power steering bracket and pump would not fit unless I use a aftermarket setup or run a smaller balancer .It has an 8 inch .Also not sure what pulleys to run as the ones I have will not line up using either short or long water pump . Thanks for any advice and would appreciate and advise and guidance .

"Looks to be in really good condition" is wishful thinking, unfortunately.
I would suggest tearing down the OE engine and doing a rebuild if the engine is rebuildable with minimal cost.
There are plenty of people who picked up those magic engines from cousin Barney that turned out to be crap.
If not the OE, then I'd suggest a newer engine that will get 2x the horsepower or more and 1/2 or less of the fuel consumption.

Thanks for your reply .Im actually not getting rid of the oe engine.For what its worth I want to work with this for now and definitely rebuild the oe in the near future .I think if I can get the pulleys to line up it should work .
Im just looking for any advise and info from anyone here that may be familiar with this newer engine ,or tried and had success or issues .

basicly short pulleys should all fit short aps and same for long pulleys. if you replace the balancer it may throw the engine balance off. i would get a borescope and look in the cylinders to see whats going on in there. i would also slap a starter on there and do a compression test or do a dirty leakdown test.

Hey thanks for the advice. So far ,I have started to put things together. Power steering pump is on and lines up good with the pulleys on the balancer. It now appears that the only pulley that will be slightly out is the water pump when measured against the ones on the Balancer.Its out by around 0.075 inches .Im now thinking this must have been like this on the old engine because the steering pump lines up good .I will post some pics later .
