Hi everyone I haven't been on the site for a long time I have a head scratcher can't figure out what went wrong. I put a new wiring harness in my 50 chevy car . Now I can't get it to charge I did pull a bone head and hooked up the generator backwards. I took it off and took it to a rebuild shop and had it checked out and he said it's working so is the voltage reg. Is fine too .I don't get anything showing a charge at the battery. If I pull on the head light switch the Amp. Gage shows it's charging but if I hook up a meter to the battery it shows not chg. So I don't know what to do. Just about ready to shove it in back conner of the garage I'm so mad and discussed with in.

Did you repolarize the generator?

Thanks yes the guy at the repair shop said that he repolorised everything that's part of why I'm stumped.

When I had my generator rebuilt, the shop told me the same thing. Just install and go.
I did, and it didn't charge.
So I used a piece of wire and repolarized, and the gen charged.
If that isn't it, ensure all the connections are correct and connectors are good and tight. Make sure the ground cable is connected, and that its good. I'm sure you know all this, but the problem is likely something small. Good luck.

Ok, ground the field wire at the generator , should go to full charge, this eliminates the regulator and wiring.

Okay thanks I'll try both of those. All also see that my hi beam indicator lite comes on when I pull on the lite switch and does not go out when I click the dimmer switch I wonder if I have a feedback problem maybe that's why chg.is not working.ill try repoloriseing and that other test .thanks for the help.

The wire that goes from the foot switch to the hi beam indicator light is on the power tab of the foot switch not the hi beam tab.
My guess.
Not related to the no charge problem
