Hi everyone, Im back with another question. I recently purchased working locks for my 48 Coupe. I was easily able to remove the old door locks and pop in the "new to me" locks with no issue. The problem I am having is that I cannot lock/unlock when the locks are inserted, either by key or from inside the vehicle. I can lock/unlock the doors from inside when the locks are removed. The new locks look identical to the old locks and i was able to lock the doors with the old locks inserted. I also found that I can only insert the locks when the latch is in the locked position. Has anyone seen this before? Any suggestions? Thanks everyone!

I'm guessing here, but if you pull the cylinder out and look at the lock through the hole in the door, you will see the square hole that the cylinder shaft has to through. That shaft has one chamfered corner that matches to a "filled" corner in the square hole. I've seen that hole become quite worn so the shaft goes in any way around, so you might have it in the wrong way. My unreliable memory thinks the camfer may be at the roughy 2 o'clock but I don't feel confident. Good luck.

Hi rickityfifty,
Thanks for the reply. I finally had some time to fiddle with the locks some more and it turns out I had them switched. I didnt know there was a left and right. Once I swapped them I was able to lock/unlock with no issue. So now on to the trunk lock! Thanks so much!

No matter how long in this hobby it seems the right vs the left still bites us in the butt sometimes. Glad it worked out.
