Can you retro fit an electric fuel pump in an existing gas tank? Working on my wagon which has an odd shape and no one makes a replacement. Custom tank is big $$$. I have an electric pump mounted on the frame but want to move into the tank. So can that be done and have the necessary baffles?

Yes you can, several companies make retro-fit kits. Some need a flat surface to cut and drop a weld-in sleeve for the pump mount, others have a bolt-in, https://aeromotiveinc.com/product/universal-16- bol... but best to do some more research for your specific tank design.

Nobody makes a sending unit for my 1968 Impala so I'm modifying one myself to work with EFI. I previously did it for a 1971 Chevelle as well. The Impala has a very shallow tank which makes almost any of the aftermarket universal set-ups a no-go. The tank is at maximum around 6.5 inches. In addition the outlet pipe is super low profile. It achieves that by starting the bend before it even gets completely through the head of the sending unit.
I'm doing a thread on the Impala but what I'm doing will work on any vehicle and uses the same position as the original sending unit. The hydramat takes the place of baffles.
Here's the thread with plenty of photos:

Will a frame mounted pump not work?
People fear change because it threatens what they know, or what they claim to know. |

I personally like the in-tank pumps better. The fuel cools the pump, less noise and there will "never" be a priming issue. It's also a "cleaner" install; looks closer to the factory set-up.
