First time posting on this site. Was wondering if anyone can tell me if my 1950 chevy has a signal flasher. Parking lights and brake lights work but not the signal lights
Thanks

I believe turn signals were an option in 1950. Look for a housing with lever mounted to the left side of the steering column.

Yes. If it has turn signals it will have a flasher. look under your drivers side dash. Also see if your brake lights work. The brake light bulbs have to work before the signals will work. bobt

Welcome BUchevy. Post some pictures of your car, if you are able. And tell us more about how and why you got it.

thanks for your help. You are correct the flasher is located to the left of the steering wheel.

The switch is to the left side of the column / steering wheel. The flasher on the other hand is usually somewhere under the dash...just follow the wires.

In case you need it, I have attached the wiring diagram for the turn signals that I used on my 1950.

ALL bulbs front and rear have to be good for the turn signal to work. If you have a burnt out bulb, the flasher will not work. Do you have a six or twelve volt system? bobt

I'm tackling the heater that doesn't work. Do you happen to know the amps for the fuse on the heater controls. The blower motor doesn't work so not sure if the fuse on the control is the issue. Any thoughts?
Thanks

If you're still running a 6v system it would be a 14 AMP fuse; according to the owner's manual.

Yes still running 6 volt system. The only fuse I see in on the heater controls. I assume that is the one you are referring to. I checked it and it's not burnt. Do you know if there is an inline fuse on directly on the wire to the heater blower?
Thanks

That would have been the only one originally. I can't say what someone else may have done over the years though. If you have the Air Flow Heater, there should be a bakelite connector more near the motor. You can hot wire to that temporarily and see if the motor works that way. I'm assuming it has a good ground.

I have one more question unrelated to the signal lights. Does anyone happen to know where a small black spiral spring about 1/4 " wide and about 1 1/2" wide spiral goes. I found it on the ground under the front diver side door. Can't figure out where it could have fallen from.
Thanks

my heater valve is leaking. Does anyone know if you tighten the screw in the back will it solve the problem. I know you can send it out to be rebuilt but fairly expensive to do so. I appreciate any help on this...
Thanks

The RANCO rubber valve is the part that deteriorates and causes the valve to leak. The rubber valve is available through NAPA at about $10. I have rebuilt two of these valves for my own vehicles and is doable by the "Do It Yourselfer. It just depends on your degree of mechanical ability. I wish it were a matter of tightening a screw...unfortunately it is usually the rubber valve that has gone bad. In the meantime you can jumper the valve out of the system.

Ram,
Thank you for your detailed input. As always you have been a huge help. I really appreciate it.
Attached is a photo of my chevy. Owned it for the past 47 years. It's been sitting in the garage for the past 21 years. Just stated to get it running again. Completely original.
Thanks again for all your help.

To post this photo, I right clicked on the photo itself and I get a drop down menu. I click on "copy image address". I then paste the copied address in between this: [image]address pasted here[/image]. This is the result:

Thanks for the info on fixing heater valve. Will give it a try and see how it goes. I'm not sure if the heater blower works. It doesn't go on using the heater switch. Anyway of checking if it actually works without using the switch ? I only see one wire that goes into the heater switch. I diconnected it and was wondering if there is a way to test the blower.
Thanks

Hook it directly to a 6 volt battery. The wire coming out of the motor should be attached to the + positive terminal and a jump wire would go from the motors case or mounting plate to the - negative terminal.
