I just bought a 1980 GMC Sierra C15, fairly decent condition, a truck that I can tinker with and still drive. This is the first square body that I have owned and the oldest vehicle I have owned. I have a couple questions I’m hoping someone can help me with.
1. When I pull the headlight knob away from the dash, both square lights and both small lights under the square ones illuminate. When I press the floor switch, the top square lights turn off. Is this what should happen? I’m trying to understand what lights should be on for low beams and high beams. The bottom smaller lights look to me to be parking lights.
2. How many radio speakers did this truck have originally? I’m trying to figure out if speakers behind the seat are original or not.
3. How do you turn on the radio in these trucks?

From what I recall, an 80 model has two headlights, either round or square. The quad headlights came later.
Most had a single speaker, but you could option more.
The left radio button twist to the right is on/off.

Pull the headlight switch out to the first position. That is the running light position and only the running lights illuminate. As said, you should only have two headlights. So if they go out when you use the high beam switch, the headlights are burned out. Are the lit when the high beam indicator on the instrument panel is lit up? It’s likely that the low beams burned out and the previous owner was using the high beams instead of replacing the lights.

Three speakers are possible. One center dash and two cab corner speakers. Most owners upgrade the cab corners to 6X9 speakers. The dash to 4X10. Round or square headlights are possible. The stacked quads started in '81.
