Does anyone know if you can change the AUTO STOP feature on a 2021 Silverado to default to OFF?
so that when you start the truck the feature is OFF and then you can turn it ON if you want to.
I was wondering if I pulled the tune with a HP Tuners if that option was in there.

Check with your local dealer. They can likely go into the setup menu for your vehicle and turn off certain features.

The dealer won't do it. Besides being against the law, its unethical. Any feature that GM installs to get EPA mileage certification, e.g. start/stop, active/dynamic fuel management, catalytic converters. engine oil viscosity etc its illegal for the dealer to tamper with and could cost them their GM franchise and huge EPA fines. They might even take offense to being asked.

There is a button on the dash to turn if off and there is a after-market jumper (auto stop eliminator) wire that can be installed but you won't find anyone to do that for same reasons mentioned above. You have to diy and from the video, not as easy task as you have to take the front of the dash apart to get to the back of the existing switch to add the jumper harness.

As for tuners, I can't elaborate but its been said these newer vehicles (2019+) are next to impossible to alter via the ecu and they will leave traces of any intervention, so you risk warranty issues should the vehicle come into the shop for any warranty service as it will throw a red flag. Mess with it at you own risk as the gov't is forcing the OEM's to crack down on customer tampering with emissions/fuel economy measures.

You raise good points if the start/stop is part of the total EPA certification. I know other vehicles have an override button on the dash.

As far as the tuners, you are correct. Those will void your warranty and create Clean Air Act violations.

Today, not much you can do under the hood but some make the vehicle louder as an alternative.

I'm amazed. As fast as technology becomes available, someone is inventing a way to disable it.

Remember the catalytic converter "test pipes"?

Good points ElCamino.. that is kinda what I thought. I know the dealer isn't gonna touch it. I could build a relay to automatically trigger the button on the dash which is what that 'Eliminator" is doing. I might think about that. For now I guess I'll just hit the button on the dash and turn it off. :-)

Thanks

I have a 2021 Silverado. I have installed the AutoStop Elimator and it was not all that difficult. The instructions were easy to understand. My dealer said they were not concerned about it. I did a scan on the truck with my Foxwell NT530 GM scanner and it did not show any issues. I have installed a similar device on my 2021 Equinox with no issues.

FYI - I just spoke with a local GM dealer who indicates that they can turn off the auto stop in the vehicle's profile without any EPA, franchise or other issues.
